Digital Goodness...

So this year, I got smart and got something that every parent/grandparent will love - a digital photo frame.

Mom pulled it off the wrapping paper, and immediately looked a bit puzzled (my hubby and I gave her an old laptop a few years ago, we are still trying to convince her that she can't break it by typing something wrong!) - but when i explained that all she had to do was pop in the card from her digital camera - she was thrilled! And it was the legitimately thrilled look - not the "Oh what a nice piece of handmade pottery with a crack in it, but I love that you tried!" look.

Pictures of the grandkids happily scrolled, wiped and faded in and out all Christmas day.....

Merry Christmas to all - and a Happy New Year!
Laura

ps - Mom, if you happen to get the laptop working and you are reading this - first of all - YAY!!! Second, you know I'm only kidding - you can work that digital camera pretty good now! :)

Rule #1 - Take your camera with you everywhere

Well, I am finally starting to take my bag's advice!
With the additional of our new lil' point-n-shoot, and the numerous other cameras I own - I'm finally going to use this bag for what it was intended!

This "Rule #1" bag is from a company called Lomography - now, if you can get past the slightly "hipster/cooler-than-thou" vibe of the site, there is a ton of great stuff in their online store.

Be sure to check out all the specialty cameras (they use this thing called F-I-L-M, might be kinda hard to find, so you better buy some from the site at the same time), and there are a ton of great gift ideas for your fav photog friend (on that note, I'm quite fond of the green slingshot bag!)

It holds and protects up to 10 CF cards - which is apparantly better than chucking them into the bottom of your camera bag (No! You never do that, do you???).

Its not perfect, it lacks a good attachment piece (it has a pretty flimsy clip/cord thing, I would really prefer a velcro wrap to go around my belt or bag strap), and the sound of the velcro closure could stop a ceremony dead in its tracks, but with a little pre-planning, this cutely name case is really useful, and worth the meager $15 bucks ThinkTankPhoto charges.

When you find good people....

...make it a point to tell everyone you know!

www.plasmadesign.co.uk

Paul and I are in the process of redesigning our website and promotional materials for Laura Eaton Photography. We really wanted to find a unique business card, and we came across these great guys at Plasma Design.

Chris and Rob are awesome! They worked with me and all my crazy design ideas to come up with an amazing new card (I'll post pix soon!), and they were super efficient (and VERY patient with me).

Its sad when great customer service stands out as something "not normal" - but thats why its so important to point it out when it does!

Thanks guys!

All I Want for Christmas...

All I want for Christmas....is this nifty lil camera!

I'm not a big fan of point-n-shoots (the time between pushing the button and the actual shutter kills me! Ok, I pushed it.... now....wait...is there something wrong? And just when you turn it to see if the lens is open - BAM, built-in-flash POPs - right in your eye!). I have to say though, its much easier to slip this little Canon SD700 IS in your pocket, than say - a 20D.

I love this camera because of its HUGE screen (its making my 20D jealous), and the fact that it has image stabilization rocks! Paul and I love low light photography, and this will allow us to take good shots wherever we go.... Well, hopefully good shots!

Turns out we are getting this for Christmas (thanks Mom-n-Dad!), so I'll post a few pix soon!

Merry Christmas to all!

Pick My Pocket

I wish I could take credit for this idea. I was attending the Pictage PartnerConference in LA, and as I was heading off to a seminar, I basically tackled the girl in front of me to find out where she got this ingenious little pocket! Has Dickies entered into the world of photography? Nope - but this Pick Pocket turns out to be just the right size for CF cards - and unlike straps that have built in card holders, can be attached anywhere.

If you look around the net - you'll see them in all kinds of cool styles and colors (the link at the top (Dickies Pick Pocket) will take you to music123.com)....

Welcome to MiniPix!

Hello there!
We decided to start this blog as a way to share all the latest and greatest stuff in photography with all of our friends. My hubby and I are pretty darn, I dunno, whats the word.... geeky? Well, we check out all the "deal" sites, and nifty-new-cool photo stuff daily, and then IM the links to each other all day long. So yes, I suppose the word is geeky.

So, I thought, why not share this good stuff with everyone! (Hey, we want everyone else to go broke on all this cool-gadget-techie stuff too! This way, we can feel better about ourselves!)

We called it MiniPix for a few reasons:
1) I used to have a Mini Cooper, and I miss it o-so-much
2) These are going to be pretty short, to-the-point entries (if you want to read rambling stuff, feel free to check out our other blog http://lauraeatonphoto.blogspot.com)

So thats it! I hope you find this useful!

Thanks!
Laura & Paul
